To Tackle A Stubborn Girl

Stubbornness is by far one of the top problems faced by parents. Do you have a stubborn child at home? Have you been wondering how to tackle a stubborn child, to get him or her to listen to you? Well, I have one stubborn child at home too, actually three.

Let’s hear the story about this little girl and skip the story of the other two boys.

She was the angel at home, always listening to instructions, giving me no problems at all. All of a sudden, she turned into a stubborn child, one who doesn’t want to do as told. It was difficult to get her to finish her meals, difficult to get her to wash her hair, difficult to get her to sit in the car seat and difficult to get her to do most of the things.

It may be a transition phase when she develops her characteristics and her own personality but hey, as a parent, I got to do something, don’t I?

So, we use a special “tool” to get her to behave.

Our special “tool”:

What’s in that little kitty that made her behave? Well, we made the little girl the “Jie Jie” (Elder sister) and made the kitty “the baby”. Her new role as an elder sister is to look after the baby and show good example to the baby so that the baby would grow up to be a good child.

Now, this little stubborn girl became the GOOD JIE JIE, doing things which she refused to do previously, trying to show good example to the little baby.

There, that took care of her stubbornness............ for awhile and I'm waiting to see how long it will last.

3GB Community

Many people started blogging as a way to jolt down precious moments that happen in their lives. Some started a blog as an online diary to write down their children’s development and milestone. Some started blogs on things they are interested in such as food, automobiles and fashion. For whichever reason a blog was started, we, bloggers, have a common view that blogging is a great way to meet new people, learn new things and exchange views.

Since I started blogging, I have come across several blog communities where we can actually communicate with other bloggers and get to know more people. I think it is pretty cool to join communities like this especially when you are new in the blogsphere. As a newbie, we need traffic to our blog and joining blog communities makes it easier to gain traffic.

Have you heard of 3gb Community? Well, it’s a blog community that allows members to upload their photos, promote their blogs, meet new friends, join groups, send messages, listen to MP3 hits as well as chat. Currently it has about 605 members with 74 albums and 704 photos (statistics taken at 8pm Malaysian time, 24 April 2008)

If you are thinking about meeting new friends or communicating with the world or just for the reason of gaining traffic to your blog, do check out http://www.3gb.biz and start getting connected with the rest of the world.

Educational Games

Parenting is never an easy task and I think most parents would agree with me. What we say as a parent may be for the sake of the children, their safety, health or development but to the children, they hear nagging, they see over worried parents and they feel lack of trust and independence.

Let’s take the issue of exposure to computer and internet as an example. With the advancement of technology, it is a trend now to expose young children to computers and internet. On one hand, we want them to be in touch with technology but on the other hand, we are afraid they would be addicted to computer games or view sites that are not meant for children.

I have a seven year old and a five year old son. Both of them like to play with the computer. Well, do I stop them? NO! I think stopping them is not the solution as it breeds dissatisfaction and anger. So, after much thought, I decided to sit with them and play with them. Recently I found out that there are lots of educational games out there that appeal to children. While they play, they actually learn!

So, instead of having the children play Ben10 game or Dragon Fable, I would prefer that they play MIA Reading: The Bugaboo Bugs! Have you heard of this new title in the Mia collection by Kutoka? Well, let’s take a look at the following picture:

I guess nine out of ten children would willingly raise their hands and nod their heads if you ask them to try MIA instead of Ben10. This cute little mouse named Mia takes the center stage in MIA Reading: The Bugaboo Bugs! which is developed with a combination of adventure and educational activities. I’m very sure that both my boys would love this as it is specially designed for children aged five to nine according to the educational curriculum.

Characters found in Mia's adventure

So, while you are thinking how to cope with teaching your children phonics, spelling, vocabulary, sentence structure, words, word recognition, reading comprehension, punctuation, verb, adverbs and etc., why not let Mia do the job with you sitting by your children’s side guiding them along the way? All of these topics are covered in Mia’s Reading Adventure which has been categorized into twelve exciting literacy skills activities with four different levels of difficulty according to age.

One of the many activities found in MIA Reading: The Bugaboo Bugs!

The story line in “The Bugaboo Bugs!” starts with the invasion of some unwelcome bugs called the Bugaboos in a Victorian house where Mia lives. Mia needs the player’s help to get the Bugaboos out of the house before they are noticed by the human and before exterminators are called so that Mia and her family would not lose their home. I think it is a pretty fun adventure the children would like. The best part is the children have total control of the moves.

The Boogaboo Bugs

Now, “MIA Reading - The Bugaboo Bugs!” can be found on a hybrid DVD-ROM for Windows and Macintosh. If you are wondering where to get a copy of this, do visit TOYS ‘R US, The Apple Stores (US) or other fine toys and computer stores. If you are staying in Canada or the US, you can even purchase it online at Kutoka Boutique.

“MIA Reading – The Bugaboo Bugs!” is played in the computer and the minimum system requirements would be:

Windows XP (sp2), 2000 (sp4), VISTA; Processor: Pentium III - 1Ghz; RAM: 512 MB; Video & Sound: DirectX 9 compatible; DVD-ROM Drive: 4X; Hard Disk Space: 1.2 GB.

OR

Macintosh OS X, 10.4, 10.5; Processor: G4 - 1Ghz; RAM: 512 MB; Video & Sound: Standard Macintosh; DVD-ROM Drive: 4X; Hard Disk Space: 1.2 GB.

Fun learning makes children happy and happy children learn best. So, with just USD24.99, you are investing in something which will generate high return (happy and intelligent children).

Welcome To The Doll House by Danity Kane

Since I become a mother, my head is full of children songs and nursery rhymes. Now that my children are older, I am beginning to make some space in my brain for some R&B or pop songs.

Danity Kane is a group which I found interesting. This group is formed via the MTV reality show “Making the Band”. Five beautiful women, each with superb vocal and dance appeal, were put together in a group. The coordination and blending of their voices in each song brings out the unique vocal of each singer.

Danity Kane

“Poetry”, an emotional yet beautiful song which I can listen to over and over again, is one of the songs found in their second studio album “Welcome to the Doll House”, released on 18th March 2008. Danity Kane invites each and every one of us to visit them in their doll house to get to know each of them better. There are five different women in there with different backgrounds and different singing style.

Do take a peep at their live performance and interview at Wal-mart Soundcheck, a site where you can find new artists, latest music release, live performances and exclusive behind the stage footage.

Say No to Negativity

*Push away negative "chi", as LB label it.*

*Open arms wide to welcome positivity and your hugs*

Sorry for that negative post yesterday. I read somewhere that blogging is a way to let out stress and I do believe it now.

Laskigal, thank you for asking me to blog it out. It'll definitely help but I'm happy now and I don't want to even think about that issue anymore.

Today is indeed wonderful and my frustration has been left behind. Well, there is no point sitting on it and make myself unhappy, right?

People - we just can't expect too much, like Miche says, nobody is perfect!

Somehow, with all your love, I wanna shout out loud:

"I'M JUST GOING TO BE ME
and WON'T EXPECT TOO MUCH."

This is what made me happy today:

~ to be able to spend some time with my little ones. Can you guess what we did or where we go? Do drop by later for an update.

I'll be visiting your blog in a day or two.

Click, Click, Click

Today's update is here and here. Click and it will send you flying to my other blogs.

More About Me

Lizzy tagged me with this fun meme. Well, I enjoyed doing it as it brings back memories.

Here goes:

What were you doing ten years ago?

Ten years ago, I was studying in a local university. That was the sweetest time I had ever had. It was fun filled days, although I had to worry about exams. There were gatherings and activities and I had the chance to join societies and learn new skills like archery (not forgetting the blue blacks I got on my arms) and martial art and French and the list goes on. Not forgetting also the performances that I took part in and the competitions that won me medals as well as those that made me sad.

What were you doing one year ago?

One year ago, I was where I am today. The only difference is that my daughter is not a baby anymore. One year ago, she was still 1 ½ years old.

Name five of your favorite snacks.

Fruits
Bread
Cakes
Chocolate
Ice-cream

Name five things you would do if you were a millionaire.

Travel around the world
Set up an education fund
Set up a medical fund
Buy my dream house
Pursue my dream

Name five things you like doing.

Spend time with husband and children
Blogging
Facilitating in Sunday Dhamma School
Traveling
Shopping

Name five things you would never wear again.

Maternity clothes
Nursing wears
Heavy make-ups
False eyelashes (wore it a few times during performances on stage)

-

Name your five favorite "toys".

My children
My computer
My mobile phone
My teaching aids / materials

~END~

Then, CY tagged me with another meme about myself. Here goes the 6 random facts about me:

  1. Refer to the above, I’m not going to wear maternity clothes and nursing wears anymore. I’m lucky enough to have 3 children. They are the greatest gift for me. They are my inspiration, my motivators, my self improvement coach, my patience trainers and my life. Well, I just hope that “accidents” won’t happen.

  1. Refer to the above, the most important thing in life is my family – my husband and my children. Other things would come later. The same goes to blogging. It’s never the priority. So, if I don’t visit your blog as often as I did, please forgive me. I do have more important things to attend to and you know what it is.

  1. Refer to the above, if I am rich one day, I would rather set up an education fund to help bright students who cannot afford to further their studies and a medical fund to help sick people who cannot afford to get treatment rather than donating it to charity where we can’t be sure if the money really goes to people who need it.

  1. When I was in school and university, I was very active in societies and activities. I would rather learn a new skill than to sit in the library studying but I was lucky my result was above average. Life is more than just books and exams, that’s what I thought at that moment. Now that I’m a mother, I still have the same thought. I want my children to enjoy their childhood and I believe in fun learning and informal learning. Learning takes place even in the shopping mall or in the restaurant.

  1. I have not regretted starting this blog. In the blogsphere, I learnt many things from all of the wonderful blogging friends of mine and along the way, I met many wonderful friends. I enjoyed writing. It’s so different from talking. When you write, you do not face any audience directly and you do not need to put on a mask, to be concern over other people’s expression and feelings. I hope I get more views and suggestions from you, my buddies.

  1. Lastly, if you want to know more about me, do read this and this and this and this.

Thank you Lizzy and CY for the invitation to participate in the above meme. Now, the most difficult part is to tag some bloggers. If you have not done this before, please feel free to participate. This is meant to be fun and not meant to be stressful.

Save Our Earth

This is a meaningful tag from Constance.

“Save our earth” sounds like a heavy responsibility for us as an individual but if you think further, it doesn’t have to be a burden. Each and every of us can do our part to help. There are two sites which we can explore and while exploring, we offer our help. It’s FREE to help. You only need a mouse to click.

This site is a sponsored site where every click will generate fund to purchase and preserve endangered land. All you have to do is to click on “Click here to give – it’s free” button and the sponsors would do their part in terms of funding.

The second site contains quiz questions and every answer you provide helps plant a tree. So, if you are curious about it, click here to find out more.

Who would like to continue this tag?
