Can I ever live without a maid? I got to know from a friend that it is very difficult to apply for a maid nowadays.
My maid would be returning home in September and what if I really can’t find a maid?
There are tones of work to be done in the house besides caring for the children. There is the laundry, the sweeping and mopping, the toilets, the dishes, the ironing, the cooking, the windows and cabinets, the bed sheets and the list can go on.
The sweeping and mopping can be replaced using a Dyson vacuum cleaner. Isn’t it easier to vacuum instead of to sweep and mop? My husband would gladly help if there is a Dyson vacuum cleaner! The only concern is what would happen if some parts fail or break? While browsing through the net, I found some Dyson spares and Polti spares and that had eased my mind as to where to purchase spares for a Dyson vacuum cleaner if I need them.
A washing machine and a dryer would solve my problem of laundry while food catering might be an alternative if I can’t find time to cook. The car, windows, cabinets, toilets and bed sheets would be a once a week or once a fortnight affair with the help of my children. That leaves dishes which can never be avoided.
Children would have to go for day care and I would have time to do my paper work. Oh, dear, will I be able to handle all these? I’m so used to having a maid! Let’s hope I can find a maid by September and if I really can’t, then I’ll have to learn some tactics from my friends who have no maids at home.

Hi Trinity, re your kind request in my blog, go ahead, and terima kaseh for the honour. Lee.
J, Will be back later read your post. Lee.
Waaa.. your maid will be returning home and won't come back? I just find new maid several days ago, so I have two maids now.. she is still very young, 16.. :-D she can play with my kids... not bad..
I hope your maid will be back again to work for you.. :-)
Hahaha... ok Uncle Lee..thank you very much... Happy Father's day! It is up now! I will post the Tribute to Moms as well ok? Won't wait for your permission now as I am sure enough you will let me do it.. *grin*
btw, Jo-N, in case you don't understand... uncle Lee has left wonderful comments on your Tribute to Dads and Moms post on the sites...
Trin,
Yoo-hoo, you are back! Miss you so much dear.
Mel,
Just had a discussion with hubby and he said we can't live without one. We can actually, but he'll have to live with a volcano which would explode anytime.
Lee,
Go ahead, Lee. Hey, I was going to ask you about it but I just knew Trinity would do the work.
Trin,
She wanted to come back but her daughter says no. Any way to "tipu" her daughter so that her daughter would nod her head willingly?
Trin,
I know. I read his comment and wanted to ask him to allow you to publish it as a post but then, I hesitated cos I know very well that you would do it. I'm absolutely right!
Hi Jo-n, couldn't help smiling you pressing the panic button main go chuti, ha ha.
All of us Malaysians here, Singaporeans too...majority had maids back where they came from, but here in Canada, had to learn how to live without one, as there are vert strict rules and guidelines re having a maid here.
Example: When I first arrived here (I came first) stayed at a friend's house while looking for a place to rent.
She has a maid from SEA.
After dinner, the maid having washed up everything, she say down to watch TV with everyone else, in a corner.
My friend's husband, he wanted a beer and asked the wife if don't mind get him one from the fridge.
I was surprised, and later asked my friend, how come he or she did not get the maid who was close to the fridge to get the beer?
"Overtime, la...Lee". I replied, "What"? She, "yes, after dinner, I have to pay overtime if get her to work".
Maids here have to be given an evening off to do studies, as well Sundays off. And after 3 years, maids can apply for PR here, bring their family.
Thus none of our 50 or more Malaysian or Singapore friends here have maids...and for those with daughters, even sons above 6 years old...all are requested to lend a helping hand at home, taking turns.
For those who have money, can call "Molly Maids", a company that will send one or two maids to your house do the cleaning etc etc, for $50 an hour, (Rgt 170) once or twice a week. The maids are bonded and company well known, reputable too.
Some of the maids are nos 4, even a 6, *wink*, ha ha.
Hey, get hubby lend a helping hand, ha ha.
Here, my wife does everything, cooking, washing up, toilet cleaning etc....I do the vacuming, tidying up, wiping anything needs wiping from dust whatever...I don't do laundry as I don't know how to fold a dress or shirt, ha ha, malu la.
Old days, I had several maids when I was a bachelor, keep house for me...they hardly any work as I was alone, had lived in maids as well part time ones...I was away from home 3 weeks of the month too on business. Needed someone feed my pet rabbit, my fishes, my Doberman guard dog and cook for me when I'm home.
Very easy work, ha ha...Lee.
Hi Jo-n, tumpang reply Trinity...go ahead re my mom, ha ha. No problemos with me. Thank you.
And Jo-n, thanks for your kind thoughts.
You keep that smile and have a nice day, Lee.

Hi Jo-n..it is really difficult to get good maids nowadays...as our ringgit are at present the lowest salary wise compare to our neighbouring country like S'pore. So most maids are not willing to come to M'sia. And moreover the ones you get are so 'teruk' that you rather not have like the nightmares I am having now. I am just waiting for my 'lousy' maid to go back this october and rather go without one and adjust my lifestyle withoutmaids that push up my blood pressure....
I don't know anyone here in Canada that has a maid. Unfortunately the only maid at my house is me. I would love to have one though.
I hope you are able to find a new one, once your other one leaves. I am the maid in our house - tee hee!
Hope you had a good weekend - see you soon. Kellan
yes very diff to find a maid lately.. till now i havent found one yet
Yeah, a maid is essential in these modern days. I for one hate ironing, so that's the main reason I have a maid! Of course she gets to do everything else..
sigh... quite difficult to get good ones ya... hope you are of the lucky ones :-)
i'm sure can lah..when the kids are older and more manageable. we just gotta get our so-used to maid attitude strip off and DIY again :)
*sigh* I've only had a maid once. Just 1 time....and it was heavenly coming home to a spotless home and my clothes not sticking like cleansers.
However, I do have a Dyson, and I LOVE it ;)
It's just a matter of getting used to. U'd definitely survive w/o a maid. Can always get help from part-timers, if necessary.
When the prev Kakak's contract ended in Mac this yr, we hv oso thot of not getting a replacement. But after much consideration, the conclusion is life wud be much better (esp for the after-work tired hubby) with an extra pair of helping hands at home. But maybe when the kids r a lil older (2 yrs later), a part-time one wud suffice.
haha, me, living without a maid for almost 5 months already, so far so good, but practically I don't have much time for blog hopping!
i have not had any maids or permanent maids since April last year. At first it can be very exhausting but later things will get regularised. In fact, now that my MIL want to return my maid back to me ( 2 weeks back), I am having a hard time adjusting to having a dishonest person by my side.
My tricks are to cook in batches every Saturday and Sunday monday, (usually 5 meat dishes like mui choy pork, soy braised pork, ginger chicken, mushroom chicken, etc etc) and freeze them in batches of 3 meals to last throughout the week. I read an article that says the nutrient is only lost by 10% so its still a good option for me. For soup, you can put everything in the soup cooker when you get home and by the time you showered and cook one stir fry vege, the soup would have been cooked. For the kids, I freeze homemade juice every weekend too. And sometimes they eat different food from us. But kids food are very fast and easy to prepare.
For fast cleaning, i use those flat square mops that you can detach the microfibre and wash in the sink.
I use a dryer for my machine washed clothes and have someone come in to wash toilet, mop the floor twice a week. Husband does the dishes when he gets home. As compared to 14 months ago, when i find things so exhausting, now i find that things get regularised. Not too bad considering you get peace at home. If you need to know more, feel free to drop by my blog and leave your email in the comment box and i will try to supply you with the recipes and stuff.
The drawback is that Ashley starts school at age 24 months but now that she looks happy and at home at her cosy kindy, I felt it was a right choice after all. Hope that helps !
I def. can't do without a maid... I'll go dizzy!
