Say "ee"

Do you have problem brushing your children’s teeth? Karl can brush his own teeth while Wayne and Nyn are two difficult children who do not want to open their mouth and that make brushing difficult.

So, I thought of an idea to make them open their mouth. I sang them a song:

This is the way we say “ee ee”
We say “ee ee”
We say “ee ee”

This is the way we say “ee ee”
On a cold and frosty morning

So, when they say “ee”, I would brush the outer part of their teeth. Then, the song continued:

This is the way we say “ah ah”
We say “ah ah”
We say “ah ah”

This is the way we say “ah ah”
On a cold and frosty morning

When they say “ah”, I would brush the inner part of their teeth.

This method seems to work for both of them but yesterday, Nyn refused to open her mouth. I tried many methods but she just kept her mouth shut tightly. So, I think I have to think of another way to make her open her mouth.

Can you share with me how you handle your children when it comes to brushing of their teeth?

oh you don't want to know.. Cliff has 2 holes on his teeth now...!! He refuses to brush his teeth... *sigh*

I show him Barney's dvd, and sing with him a a a a a oh the raindrops bla bla bla.. so he can open his mouth of 2 seconds! *doh*

but now it is much easier, I let him play with water on the washstand.. so he open his mouth..but can't say eeeee... and still hard to brush his front teeth!

Trin,

Funny why kids do not like to brush teeth. Luckily they are milk teeth and not permanent teeth.

i really surrender with this..my elder daughter never wants to brush her teeth when she was 1-3 years.I had tried many method but still failed.I think if you can't brush their teeth, you better give them to drink plain water and rinse it before go to bed..otherwise..teruk!like my daughter.

to brush my girl's teeth, I'll let her hold one brush, and when she tries to brush it herself, I'll slot in my brush, hehe...

sometimes I brush her teeth while she is busy playing with her toys.

Hi, Jo-N. So far, I have no problem(s) with her. She let me brush her teeth since I first introduced toothbrush and toothpaste to her few years back. But I try to buy cute toothbrush and princess toothpaste from Oral-B for her.

Sue,

Susah but have to do it, ya?

Huisia,

Oh, good idea.

Chinnee,

The original song is Here we go round the mulberry bush. I just change the lyrics.

Ling,

That's good news. I think I should brush with them too.

Kelly,

Hahaha. Mothers will do anything to make things happen. I will be visiting your blog shortly.

Sweetiepie,

True. Thanks for the tip.

Martini,

Good idea too. I should try this.

LB,

Hahaha. When time comes, you will know.

Anggie,

When they are born, I use cotton wool to wash their gums and I would do that everyday til they have teeth and that's the time I switch to finger toothbrush and then toothbrush.

Sasha,

Haha. Kids don't like the brush. Happy new year to you too.

Yenny,

That's a way to make them brush their teeth, eh? I notice when I buy new toothbrush, they automatically want to brush their teeth.

Siew Ting,

Hope it works for you.

Very clever :) I usually brush my teeth with our daughter...so she see's what I'm doing, and I let her brush on her own until I'm done with mine....then I sneak in a few moments of brushing hers.....kids always hate this though :(

I was having a hard time getting my toddler to open his mouth so I could brush his teeth and so I took him to the dentist as she showed me how to hold him so I could brush his teeth.

I bought them a battery-operated toothbrush with colorful pix and that solved the problem. They loved the gadget and now brush their teeth a few times a day :)

my older 4, they just brush their teeth...they know it's what they are supposed to do to have healthy teeth and gums. my little guy, though, i usually have to sit on him and pry his mouth open, and forcefully brush his teeth. i know...i'm an amazing mom ;)

Brushing together seems to help. Ok, will try it one day.

You really did that? Now, maybe you can describe how you hold him.

If she donwan to brush her teeth, we will keep on telling her that her mouth is smelly. Then we will not talk to her or play with her. Eventually, she will request to brush her teeth.. hehe

I am very lucky that I did not really have problem with brushing my children's teeth. They always looked at me when I did brush my teeth, so they get used to it. :)

Miche,

Those who use the batt. operated toothbrush say it's good. So, it's worth trying.

Jas,

It seems to work for your girl. Will check out the tag soon.

Leena,

Today, Nyn seems to cooperate with me. I told her a story while brushing her teeth.

Jazz,

Mothers!

Jess,

Good for you.

Nyumix,

Glad to hear that.

Maybe can try to get her some fancy looking toothbrush? Or cute toothpaste tube? XY doesnt give me any brushing probs but CE is not that cooperative. I'm still using the finger toothbrush. And he refused to open his mouth. Sometimes he'll bite it, and my finger at the same time. Ouch!
