A tooth!
He was so excited about it when his first tooth dropped.
Karl: Mummy, mummy, look!
I was excited too. I quickly snapped a picture of the tooth but it’s not clear enough to be shown here.
Next, my instinct told me that I have to grab this opportunity to talk to him about his behavior:
Me: Karl, you have lost a tooth today.
Karl: Yes, mummy.
Me: Is it painful?
Karl: No, not painful.
Me: Yay! Do you know what it means when you loose a tooth? It means you are a big boy now!
Karl: Haha, I’m a big boy now.
Me: Do you know how a big boy should behave?
Karl: I know, I must help mummy and daddy to do work and I must help kakak (my maid) to sweep the floor.
Me: That’s right. You have to do many things yourself. You have to be independent and you have to change your bad habits. Big boys don’t jump about, big boys don’t cry when mummy say NO, big boys don’t quarrel and fight with brothers and sisters. Big boys love brothers and sisters and teach them to be good.
Karl: (Smile)
He seems to understand. I hope he really understands. It is so much easier to talk to him when he is happy and when I am calm. That is a new tactic I learnt, to teach my children wherever and whenever possible. What about you?

The Tooth Fairy will be coming soon, with a gift of cookies... :-) or maybe that's really for little boys?
aww! Congrats! What a great milestone :) Will the tooth fairy be coming to slip some goodies for him soon ?
LB,
Haha. Did your mom tell you that?
Sandy,
Do you tell your kids about tooth fairy?
yes, i agree when both children & mumy r happy...talking seemed to be much easier & working !!
no blood meh d teeth dropped?
my son lost his first tooth in kindergarten. when i went to pick him up at the end of the day, he came out to me, smiling with a big, gaping hole...i started crying! i couldn't believe my baby lost his first tooth...when it seemed like yesterday that it had just popped through his little sore gums! now, he is almost 12...has no more teeth to lose, until he becomes an old man!
xoxo
My daughters never want anyone to touch their tooth. They want to keep it under their pillow and wait for the tooth fairy to give them a gift.Kids nowsaday are so different eh! ithink they read too much story books.Your son did a good job..sure big boy now..no crying at all?:)
Karl is a good boy. I also will teach my children, wherever and whenever possible. :)
That's so great. I agree that it is always good to take advantage of opportunities to really talk with them that isn't negative all the time.
a new milestone for Karl!
and mummy is so smart to take the opportunity talking about big boy responsiblility, haha..
I learned with my daughter, a teenager now, that trying to explain things to her when she was upset and crying only made me upset and she never listened. What a milestone to loss his first tooth. :o)
Actually Karl gain wisdom!
My boy is still young. A tooth sprouting is the milestone now, I think, rather than losing one! ;)
Jacss,
Easier for them to listen, ya? Only a little blood.
Melissa,
You actually cried?
Sweetiepie,
Didn't cry at all! He has grown up! He has been the cry baby at home but I have to praise him this time.
Ling,
Never let go of any opportunity, eh?
Melinda,
So true. Teach them not only when they misbehave.
Martini,
:) Mothers would go all out, eh?
Tammy,
Ya, they actually don't listen when they are upset.
Chinnee,
True and I'm glad he did.
My son is waiting for the tooth fairy to give him his 2 front teeth, it didn't happen in Christmas.
Jo-N, u r always good in grabbing the opportunity to convey the right message to ur children. :)

Hey hey, tooth fairy may be comin soon...hehehe :-)
Happy New Year to you and your family Jo-N!! Nice to have met you online..
Ya, he has certainly grow older, but not because of the tooth. It's because of his sensibility and the new year! hehe...
