Playgroup Update (29 September 2007)

Chinnee, our playgroup coordinator, was absent and I thought I would do the update for our playgroup. It's always fun to attend the playgroup and every week, there's something new to learn. Our group of mummies (and daddies) are very dedicated and everyone chipped in ideas to make our playgroup fun and lively.

This week, we had free play and snacks as usual. This is the time when the adults would do some chit-chating but sometimes you might be surprised that the children would also have their own "little sessions".

See what I mean? Audrey is teaching Nyn how to do YOGA. Look at how she balance herself?

Mummy Siaw Wei prepared a simple craft that we used to do during our schooling days but for the children, it's a challenge. Mummy Siaw Wei took all the trouble to cut out strips for all 15 children. Then, it was the children's turn to wieve. Up and down, up and down, they went.

Materials: Cardboard and old magazine cut into strips.

End product

After that, I told the children a story about how a boy loves his mother, a story I took out from a book I bought and love so much. After the story, I asked each one of them to give their mothers a BIG HUG. That moment was really great for I could feel it myself when Karl, Wayne and Nyn gave me a bear hug.

To end the session, we sang and played "Ra, Ra, this a way" (A game to get to know all the children's names) and "London Bridge". All went well and everyone left the centre, happy.

Wen,

You can find a few friends and start a group. That's fun too.

Chinnee,

You're welcome. I am part of the group too.

Hi TNP,

It is indeed a nice playgroup.Children learn how to socialize, pick up new skills and practise responsibility while they keep the toys together, get their own chairs and put the chairs back after the craft session.

It's also a time when mothers exchange experience about parenting and at the same time, spend quality time with their kids.

Agnes,

That's good. Maybe you can have story telling, singing and games too. It'll be fun.

Slavemom,

Every parent in our playgroup has to rotate duties and so, we have many ideas as everyone put in effort. We really have that bonding and sense of belonging. Nice feeling.
